Extra Prods
« on: April 04, 2006, 02:07:50 AM »
Well after starting xbow hunting I have wound up with a Barnett Ranger I bought new, A chinese Barnett Copy of a Wildcat and a Barnett Commado. Took all three to the bow shop yesterday to get unstrung to give the prods a rest and to take the prods off of the Ranger and Wildcat copy. The guy is great there did them all for nothing but then I buy all my stuff there too for making bolts ect. Anyway out of the three xbows the chinese one is terrible  really bad trigger, but I feel the prod is very usable. The Ranger is good but I think too light the heavier Commando will be more stable and the ranger prod is a straight prod not a recurve but still should be a good replacement. The Commando prod needs some work as the very edge was starting to splinter in the middle but the rest of the prod was solid. I beveled the offending areas wich hardly removed any material and smoothed every thing out and covered with epoxy to strengthen and seal.  If that prod does get bad I feel I have two spares and I know that Barnett is using the New Wildcat prods for replacements so I know this should work fine. Might have to make a spacer for the bottom of the prod to take up the space left as the origional Commando Prod is a bit wider.  I also feel that these Barnett prod systems need some extra help in padding the prod to protect it so leather spacers are used in front and back of the prod to protect it from the pressure needed to hold it in place. Jim
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

Gave back the chinese copy to the guy I got it from. I felt that it was not worth keeping.
