We were merrily going along in the Eganville Big Buck contest, having qualified 8 deer and one moose for the Ontario Record book, when one of the guys dropped a mount on my table and told me it was the last one of the day. At that point the leading typicals were two excellent bucks scoring 148 5/8 and 148 3/8.
After I picked my eyeballs up off the table, I looked it over. It was a comparatively narrow rack, with very long tines and long/heavy beams. The 5X5 had an inside spread of 15 1/8, the G2s were 12 6/8 and 15 (yes! 15) 3/8, G3s were 11 and 12 2/8, the shortest main beam was 24 1/8 and smallest circumference was 4 3/8.
He grossed 177 5/8 and netted 171 3/8.
The shooter was Rick Marshall, and it looks like he plans to enter it in both FROW and B&C.
