I was disappointed to find out that the remington 40x's are not as good as the factory leads us to believe. I just got my NEW 40x back from rebarreling. My gunsmith said for the money the 700 is every bit as good. My 40x needed to be trued squared well you know everything. I always thought you paid the big bucks for the 40x to get this stuff all done

I own a couple of 40 x's and have been happy with them.  A full on custom action they aint but I do believe they are made to tighter tolerances than a straight 700 - I've got a couple of those to.  If you look back at bench rest (before custom actions) the firing line was awash with Remington’s, I think that speaks highly of the quality of them.  Having said that you may just have a great gunsmith who knows what he's doing and has been able to improve on the 40X.  If that is the case I would think you have a great rifle.

Excited
Dwight Scott is his name. Dwight builds world class bench guns. This gun felt like sand paper before he got ahold of it. Now it is so smooth it is hard to believe it is the same gun. I CANT WAIT TO SHOOT IT.
It is a 40xwith a Kreiger SS barrel, tight neck 7-08(309). In a HS precision silhouette stock. Jewel trigger.Jewel mounts and bases holding a 18x40x50 premier reticle conversion leupold.
Think it will shoot???????????????????
wish me luck
