Marlin Model 60 magazine capacity

Hi.
I was wondering if Marlin changed the size of the tubular magazine on the Model 60? Didn't the model 60 used to have a larger capacity? Why did they change?
Thanks,

The newer 60s hold 14rds I think and the older ones held 18. The switch was made around 1990 I think. I also think they shortened the barrel by 2 inches so this also made the magazine tube shorter hence less capacity.
