Ultra struck again-my brothers victory.
« on: April 15, 2005, 03:27:45 PM »
Well we just got back from some hog hunting, and my bro came out great. 8)  First off I just did put new rings on my 223 Ultra and my scope isn't sighted back in yet   so I wasn't able to bring my lucky piece with me-much to my shame.
We were going to a place we have never been groundhog hunting and I was very unprepared  But still in good hopes I brought my 17HMR anyway.
Yet me brother came through , bringing both 223 and 17HMR   The wind was really wipping and we both knew that the 17 wouldn't be the best choice to use. Once we got there..look there's one! So my bro pulled up his Ultra 223 on the hood of his truck and let loose with the bipods. I wisled a couple times and the little hog stood tall. My brother let loose a hand loaded 50gr Ballistic tip and nailed his small target at an even 300yards   An awesome shot. We had a blast!
Ya gotta love spring.

Sounds like the critters are coming back out after a long winter's nap to take an even longer one :)

I'm gonna try something new this year, coyote hunting. I've got the camo suit and everything. I'm gonna take my Ultra .243 and Handi .223 with the Ultra barre, and I also have a Colt Sporter. This will be my first active year in Utah, and I'm looking forward to blasting some criters, as well as getting my 9 year old son involved. He's just about old enough.

Nice shot BTW on the ground hog. Gotta do that more often. :D
Ohhhh, I hate when that happens

Yeah the yotes are acumulating here in VA as well. Gotta keep my eye out for them more this year.

If you guys haven't tried coyote hunting, you really need to. It is very challenging as the coyote might be one of the toughest hunting challenges there is. Some wildlife biologists believe that the coyote would be one of the last survivors on earth if not the last in the event something happens to start killing off life forms.

I used to take my Ruger M77 .243 coyote hunting but I wanted the challenge of a single shot. I bought my first Handi the last week in March in .223 that I will use this year. I hunt with my brother and we use an e-caller along with mouth calls. Sometimes, we take along a turkey decoy to help draw their attention away from us.

I wonder if there is a groundhog call? lol ....

Hey BigJeepMan-how do you like an electronic caller?
Does it work pretty good?

I have this video documenting two coyote hunters, one uses a mouth call and the other uses an e-cole. They both seem to be equally successful.

Yes, I'm going to start hunting them any day now. I have the call, and the suit came Thursday, so as far as I know, I'm in business. Can't wait.

BTW, does anybody know where I can gather information on tanning hides? Web sites, stuff like that.
