Golf ball - firecracker mortar
« on: April 07, 2005, 01:47:54 PM »
I now know the maximum range (and altitude) of a one-caliber long golf-ball morter using one 1-1/2" long firecracker for propellant is about 8 feet.

More experiments and pictures this weekend.

(And yes, my wonderful wife of 22 years said "I'm married to a nut!")

Hey CW, I bought some ping pong balls this weekend to try out with some firecrackers. I'll keep you posted.

Sounds like we may have to sponsor a tournament.

And, how about the recent post of using whiffle balls in the golf-ball caliber mortars?

the origanal firecracker motars that were made years ago used a rubber ball as a projectile. needless to say very few are still around compleat with the the origanal rubber ball. but i have seen some that were still new in the the box.

as far as crackers go be very careful of using newer crackers.they are not intended to be fired one cracker at a time. the fuses can be lightning fast!
they are only intended to be fired a whole pack at a time.

the reason is they are limited to only 50mg of powder, and the only way to get them to bang is with very fast fuse.they are not meant to be fired one at a time. you can find single fire crackers that are packaged in boxes that have a more reliable green visco type fuse........hammer
