12" encore 44 mag
« on: April 16, 2005, 02:20:22 PM »
This is me first post on any forum, so please bare with me. I recently purchased a encore 12" 44 mag barrel. I was woundering if anyone has used the T/C duo scope rings and base, On one before.  How well will they hold up to the recoil ?   Also I'm not a reloader and was woundering what a good factory shell would be for deer? :?        THanks

sk, welcome to the board. I haven't used Duo rings myself but there seems to be mixed  feelings about them. I like Leupold base and rings on my Encores. Just my opinion.

SK330LC,

I have the same setup as you are describing.  12 inch Encore (SS) with DuoRing that was mounted once and forgotten.  Last week, after probably 750 rounds, I noticed it was just a bit loose where the DuoRing base attaches to the barrel.  Broke it all down and redid it with thread lock.

No more issues!

It has never lost its hold on the Elite 3200 scope it holds.  I am having a tremendous amount of fun shooting it and have found that lighter loads work for me at this stage of my .44 mag career.  I know you said you don't reload and I never had either until I got this rig.

Am finding that touching target holes is great fun and I can do that with my Alliant 2400 mid loads.  I only mention this in case you know someone who loads and could do it for you or for under a $100 you could have everything you need to try it.

BTW, I shot it at 50, 100, 150 and 200 yard/meter silhouette targets 2 days ago and I see this will be great fun in the near future.  I could not believe how close I was at 200 on the ram.  Not that I would hunt that far but it will be a real skill builder.

Let us know how your shooting goes.  Can't wait to hear how you like it after you have broken it in or shot something with it.

Mike

Welcome to GB.  I have no experience with the Duo ring mount, I have no trouble with a weaver base and rings on my 44 Mag barrel.   I would think just about any factory load with 180 to 240 gr JHP bullets would do the job on a deer.  Pick the one that shoots best in your gun.

I assume the Duo mounts are the same (quality) for Encore as Contender.  I have one on my 10 inch octagon Contender.  I don't know of any 44 mag that recoil worse than these and my Duo mount has worked well through several hundred rounds.  I think the mixed feelings come from the lack of fore-aft adjustment room for the scope rather than durability.

Welcome aboard.
Since no one answered your question about ammo I`ll tell you what I prefer. I load all of my own ammo and prefer Serria 240 gn. JHP bullets for deer. I find that I get my best combo of accuracy and terminal preformance. If your going to shot factory ammo try Remingtons. I`ve never shot their ammo but I have loaded their bullets and was real happy with their terminal preformance and their accuracy wasn`t bad.

   Thanks everybody for all the great Input !!      One other question Does anybody have any experience with T/C's pistol scopes?  I've used there Hawken series On my 209x50  and .243 encore rifles And Love them. Are the pistol scopes the same quality?  :?
