I've got one built in 1978. I love it! Accurate, dependable, and beautiful too! It's the only modern single shot I own, and I don't plan on selling it!

DITTO!   It's the first rifle I want to take hunting each fall.  Mine will shoot 3/4 inch 3 shot groups and I've NEVER had to shoot an animal twice.  If you hunt from a tree stand you'll love the way it handles in a tree.

superdown, don't sell yourself short on a scope. Not saying you have to buy a Leupold, but get the best scope you can afford.

If you don't reload and you want a powerful load go with the buffalo bore ammo. But the factory loaded Remington Ammo will work on deer and bear.  :D

Likewise! Get a good scope, and you'll be happier! You don't have to spend several hundred dollars to get a decent scope. Try some of the medium priced scopes. Lower powered, or fixed power scopes work best, and they are less expensive too.
I'm kinda stuck with my 4x Lyman, as my Ruger #1 is the Lyman Centennial Model, and came with the full length Lyman 4x scope. It has no other means of mounting another scope.

You're gonna love it! Mine shoots Hornady 300 JHP & Cast Performance 405 gas check handloads (Starline brass & IMR 3031 powder) well.

I mounted a long eye relief Leupold VX-II 2x7-33 w/ wide duplex ret, & it made lot's of difference.

If you will overlook my lack of artistic back ground, here's a few pics:

Thanks - shot off bags. Cast Performance seems to have a pretty good product line.

Can't imagine anything (in the lower 48 anyways) standing up to that load. Made one HELLUVA THUD on the back stop. A real eye opener.

Still trying to find an easy to shoot jacketed "target" load.... ;=]

gcf, I am shooting the Barnes 350 and 400 gr. X bullets made for the 458 Win Mag.  Very accurate and have a lot of thump on both ends.  :D

If I might ask, what kind of load are you running under those bullets?

I tried the Speer 350 FSP w/ the 3031, & was unable to come up w/ an "accurate" load.

gcf, with the 400 gr Barnes X I am using 39.0 gr. of IMR4198 and with the 350 Gr. Barnes X, I am using 42 gr. of IMR 4198.  The point of impact is only 1/2 inch difference between the two loads.
