Building another GPR

I have been blessed with a 54 cal GPR kit (percussion) for my birthday present from my family.  So far, it's the only bright side about getting older.

Anyway, when I built my 50cal GPR, I used Permalyn finishes from Track of the Wolf.  Truthfully, it looks great, but it's shinier than I wanted.  Too glossy.  

Does anyone know how to get the Permalyn finishes to turn out more of a matte finish?  

Has anyone used the Minwax urethane finishes on a muzzleloader?  How did they turn out?

You might try lightly buffing the finish with very fine steel wool.
It will dull the finish but the finish will still do a fine job of preserving the wood.  If it appears to be too dull, simply wipe down the wood with your oil rag and it will put a rich glow back into it, but not that bright glass finish you presently have.

Have you ever taken real fine steel wool and polished the wood until it had a beautiful low gloss shine like it?
