forend for 12" on 10" barrel?
« on: April 21, 2005, 04:25:29 AM »
I got my first Contender in January - brand new G2 with 12" .22 barrel!  I've been plinking away and deliberating about what to get for deer season.  Last week I got a 10" 7-30 Waters on ebay (most of my deer hunting is close range - mtns of VA and WV).  I understand that the 10" barrel takes a different forend, so I ordered one which should arrive any day.

Last night I was playing with my new toys and discovered that I can put the 10" barrel on the frame with the forend that came with my 12" barrel.  The 1st screw hole on the 12" forend matches up with the one screw hole in the 10" barrel.  You just can't use the second screw.  My obviously uneducated question: is there any reason you should NOT do this?

I've been browsing the messages on this board for a few months.  Thanks to GB and the rest of you who have provided a lot of useful info to get me started!  Thanks also to flatlander for advice by email.

 Why "free float" a barrel that will be shot off hand? It's a waste of time. This isn't benchrest shooting.

Like Zero said.. i like the way they look too.

I have 3 of the 10" TC custom shop barrels, and they are all made up with the double forend lugs so they can utilize both bolt holes.

Thanks, that good to know since the new forend arrived yesterday, and they sent me one for an octagon barrel!

At least I can go ahead and start shooting.  Can't wait to get to the range and sight in!
