Contender Grips
« on: April 14, 2005, 02:24:47 PM »
I bought a T/C Contender Alloy II used with a 45/410 10" barrell w/vented rib and fold down rear sight. My ? is: I also bought a set of pachmayer grips off e-bay and they won't fit neither will the forend fit either. It's marked 10" T/C bull barrell. Also, I bought a 10" 44mag just like the 45/410 w/vented rib and I want to put a scope on it. Any suggestions?

The grips should fit, the Contender only used 1 mounting style until the G2 came out. The forend requires an adapter to fit the barrel.
Good Luck

Special E................no that is not correct. If you have a "pre-Easy Open frame" a newer Pachmyer grip will not fit unless you grind out a small place for the different shaped trigger assembly. I have a whole collection of grips that date back to the mid-seventies....if you would like I can post a pic.

I didn't know that. Both mine are the "easy open" type.
His frame is an "AA" so he must have pre-easy open grips?

sk.........I don't know about that either.  I have a pre easy open frame ser# 108xxx and my pachmeyer grip fit without alterations or problems.  Darrell did not say if his grips were presentation or decelerator and I don't know if it makes a difference.  I have the decelerator grip (finger grooves and rounded butt).  I also have the pachmeyer forend with a hanger bar that fits 14 inch barrels.  It is a hassle to swap so I don't use it.  Come to think of it I don't use the grip any more either, LOL.   :)  :-D  :)

P.S.  I just noticed you said "newer" pachmeyer grip.  I did not know there were differences and that may explain why.  Sorry I may have muddied the water even more.

Actually I got it wrong to.....its the other way around. Older grips need modification to fit Easy open frames. Brain lock
Its pretty easy with a Dremel tool to correct and I believe when I sent my frame to TC to get the Easy open conversion they sent instructions on how to modify Pachmyer grips to fit.

A scope mount won't go on that barrel, just sell it and get a straight tube.

Isn't the AA a little bigger than the regular Contender? I know you can't use a regular barrel on an AA frame. It won't fit because of the coating. Is this the problem?

The only difference between the Armour Alloy frames and the blue or stainless frame if the barrel pivot pin and the hole. The plating makes the hole smaller hence the need for a smaller pin. The barrels can be opened up carefully but nolonger can be used on an AA frame unless that is converted as well and you'll need a new pivot pin. The problem with trying to attach a scope mount to a vent rib barrel is there is nothing to attach it to. These aren't drilled like a conventional T/C barrel is and the rib is so flimsy to hold any kind of scope mount.
