guess i will use the same message i deleted for a new topic. :)

just wanted to let you guys know i foudn an encore.

got a used one with walnut and blued steel today for a trade.

the price on it was $429...for a heavy barrel .204.

is this a decent deal?

the trade i managed to only owe $29 when i was done. i got rid of a couple varmint guns i dont use anymore.

anyway, i am happy. its a nice gun.

you guys want the .204 barrel? or should i keep it?

I have the Encore 26" in the 204. Shoots excellent with 32 gr.
As far as shooting 40's, forget it  with mine.  Just wont group with a darn...
Good luck with yours...

well now that i have researched .204 a little more i think i am keeping it. the trouble now is that i need to find a cheap-to-plink-with caliber too, since this gun is going to be out of the safe a lot. :)

what do you guys recommend? .223? 22mag? 22 hornet?

GB

Try a .223 Ackley Improved.  Have one in a Contender.  Be another laser beam and brass is cheap, will shoot .223 rem and fireform while hunting.

mjb - I was just checking out pricing on a new Encore and I would say you got a decent deal. Figure a new frame and stocks run $280 and that barrel can run you $220 or more.
I have a G2 carbine with the .204 and I like it. Up until just a few days ago brass was a little tough to find but even that has changed. Defintely keep that one.

i found .204 ammo at a nearby grocery store that has a hardware/gun section in the back...

$14 per box. the guy on the phone actually knew what he was talking about and even said their whole inventory is from the same lot if i wanted more.

thats as cheap as i have found it. now i am pretty happy. i was mad about 18-20 dollar boxes i found.

and what the hell is with wal mart not even STOCKING .204??? are they TRYING to be behind every other gun shop?
