Encore Thumbhole Stocks {do you like them?}
« on: April 20, 2005, 10:09:42 AM »
For the people that have used these what are your opinions? I am not crazy about how my cheek rest on the conventional stocks. Are the thumbhole stocks any different where your cheek rest? It looks in the pictures I have seen to have more of a smooth wider area for your cheek? How do they feel when cocking the hammer? Same or different. Do they have a good feel when you throw them to your shoulder? thanks, jcurrie

I have a laminated thumbhole stock on my 300Win Mag Encore. I love it. It feels very natural to me.  :grin:

I have a couple of thumbhole stocks for the Encore. They definately have a better "feel" to me. For stand hunting they are great. However when I took one elk hunting I decided that was the last time I'd take one when stalk hunting.

It is a little akward when walking when you have to repostion your hand after cocking the hammer. I am now waiting on a kevlar buttstock of more" convetinial " design. The great thing is with the Encore standard stock design my hand is in a more "natural" position when compared to my Sendero stock.

So short answer for me. Stand hunting or target shooting= thumbhole. For walking and stalking= conventional.

This does not hold true for my 10/22 though. Thumbhole all the way.
