internet cowboy action purchases
« on: April 27, 2005, 11:58:04 AM »
Well, this may be a bit OT, but I was just looking over some items for sale on another site.  I don't want to name names, the the initials are S.A.S.S.

I have sold things on the Wire, but I haven't bought any.  It has no feedback rating, and now I'm a bit concerned.  I've been shopping around for cowboy gear, but are there some online sources to avoid?

I"ve edited this post a lot.  In fact, I deleted most of it.  After sending a PM to the individual that  I mentioned in the original post, he replied with a plausible explanation.  As I've got no proof, one way or the other, I figure I've got no right to leave the original wording.  As always, internet sales are just about the ultimate in "buyer beware," regardless of what site hosts the ad.

You know what I have suspected. :x

I personally don't  buy firearms unless I inspect them in person. I don't want to hear the story behind it, I want to inspect and make up my own mind what it is worth. I like to buy new when I can. I have bought a pair of new rugers off the boards, but they were brand new and from a cowboy dealer. Dealers have a lot more to lose from bad publicity than an individual does. Plus you can always report them to BATF.
So, luckily I have yet to be burned, but your warning of caution is going to be foremost in my mind.
I have yet to buy from an auction site, but mostly the sellers allow an inspection period, where you rarely see that option on the cowboy boards.
Thanks for the tip  :-)

I've been lucky on the wire, too; but again it's luck.  Sooner or later I'll loose big enough to negate all the good deals I've made.

Gun safe is full so that should be reason enough to slow down or stop.  Just have room for Cap's 87 shotgun, if I live long enough to see it

I've done business on the board yer talkin' about. I always look fer a SASS badge number and do a search to see if the seller is a regular on other parts of that board. These indicate that the seller has a something to loose if he doesn't come through...his reputation among freinds. So far I've purchased 4 guns there and have been VERY happy with them.
