Yeah.  Off track.  Don't forget the 30-40 Krag, and what the heck, the 50/70; which I believe is what the trapdoor was first chambered in before the 45/70.  I mean they're gonna make 50 cal barrels anyway.

If the 762x39 barrels are accurate enough to shoot an inch at 100 with surplus ammo like Ulyanovsk or Silver Bear or Wolf, I'll buy one.  Same with 762x54R and 8mm.  Shoot, the ammo for these rifles is so cheap, that alone would make it a deal.  It'd be fun to see what a new modern barrel can do with these old surplus rounds.

No problem quick :toast:  I understand.  Groups are always prime to shooting and do tell you the potiental of your firearm.
I just think it got all technical with how many shots needed, what they tell you, and the whole debate. I think some people get to anal and loose the fun and enjoyment of shooting. I say shoot your gun and have fun with it.
But back on topic, I think if these barrels were used under the Survivor line it would fit great, and save more money instead of getting new stock updates to introduce a new look and different line altogether.-Good Idea

I agree....IF H&R will make the bores of the proper size to shoot the milsurp ammo that is available cheap....if they won't shoot that well, what's the point??? The jury is still out on the bore diameter of the still to be produced 7.62x39.... :?  We won't know until someone actually has one in hand, we've been told 2 different bore sizes by H&R, so only time will tell....I fully expect it to be a .308 bore cuz they're already tooled for that barrel and that has been their previous practice to keep costs down...

I think you are right about that.  Too bad if they do cause gearing up for .311 would open doors to other chamberings that would probably be good sellers.

I know they read this forum, so maybe they are "listening".

Maybe we need a POLL thread for them to read

I couldn't agree more!  While I do hold my C&R's in a high esteem, it would be nice to have something that can shoot the ammo I already have on hand that isn't over 60-100 years old.    I might actually be able to shoot 7.62x39 and worry about proper marksmanship, not just blasting 1000 rounds out of an SKS.    :)

FWIW, I always figured 3-shot groups were adequate for a big game rifle.  Five-shot groups are what I use for a varmint rifle and, if I had a true target rifle, I'd use 10-shot groups.
I remember an old Jack O'Connor article about the "1-shot" group.  Jack wrote about an old geezer who fired one shot per day for five days in a row.  He would fire two from sitting, two from prone, and one over an improvised rest such as a log.  That way he knew what his rifle would do under field conditions from a cold barrel.  I think that idea has some merit but I've never tried it.
