Bass fishing in new pond
« on: June 07, 2005, 03:09:22 PM »
I am about to go fishing on a small pond -- no boats -- with a lot of laydown logs, warm water temp, and murky water.  The laydowns are really thick with lots of branches.  The fish are active right now, if the warm water hasn't put them down.  Can anyone recommend some lures?

Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks,

Henry

First lures to come to mind for me would be jig, tube baits and the like.  work them around the "laydowns" slowly and use heavy enough line to horse them Bass out of the timber.  Let us know how you do.  Lawdog

When we got there, we found most of the pond covered by thick scum, so we used scum frogs and weedless spoons and had hits, but no takers.  Then we hiked to the other side, and found an open spot in the scum, where the bass were spawning.  (I was surprised, because I had thought they were finished spawning a while ago.)  I had a bite from what must have been a bass around 5 pounds, (saw it) and we caught four all about a foot long.  My brother and I used watermelon gold fleck YUM zellamanders, and my friend's dad used a brown grub with a spinner clip on it.

I got two: one 12" one 13.5"
My brother caught one about 13"
My friends' dad caught one about 10"

There have been several 5 pound bass and a 8 pound channel taken out of that lake; I've heard it was a pay lake once.  Can't wait to go back there again sometime.  I think next time we go we'll bring canoes.
