Where can I get a Holster for my scoped Contender?
« on: April 11, 2005, 03:13:52 PM »
Hey all I just got my contender from a great guy on this site and plan on using it for deer hunting. Does anyone make a holster for a scoped contender? I would be real handy to holster it while climbing with the climber. Any suggestions would be appreciated Thanks Jimmy

Do an E-bay search for "thompson holster"....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=73975&item=7148079608&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

I saw this one (above) and was considering it.  I think I am leaning more towards a sling instead.
The problem with troubleshooting is....sometimes it shoots back!

Theres bunches of options.

I've tried the cordura bandolier type from uncle Mike's:

Had a Hunter for awhile - really great quality leather:

My current and favorite holster so far is the Pistolpackaging.com Scoped Bandito Rig:

But there are many situations in which you just can't beat a sling.  I really like this one:

I have a very nice holster that foxridge outfitters sold quite a few years ago. it is a hip holster for 10 inch barrels. I would where it cross draw style.
I found it to be very heavy and would pull my pants down when walking.

It is now sitting on top of my gun safe still in very very good condition.

I use a sling to carry my contender. I find it to be easer on my, it is also faster to get a shot off if you jump the game you are after.

on a side note: It is never a very good idea to keep a loaded firearm with you while you are climbing in or up to a stand. It is to easy to fall and if you should you will have a chance of the firearm going off. Get you self a good hall line I like to use 550 cord  with a breaking strength of 550 lbs it will pull up any of my gear.
I will clip the string to my contenders sling so it will point down or straight out so if it should go bang the bullets will not be flying at me.

just some other ideas

I am a cheapskate and I use a drill holster (harbor freight $3.99). I had a picture of this on the site but I can't find it at the moment.

good luck

if you can swing the pistolpacking.com bandito rig, go with that.   it costs a little more than the others but is well worth it.  i have tryed uncle mike's and a generic cordura case,  i didnt like it at all.  noisey when you draw and attracts and holds moisture in the fabric.

slings are another nice option, but if your carrying a treestand on your back,  they tend to bounce off one another- not good.

i have heard quite a few talk of this but havent tryed it myself.  for $4 , a guy aint risking much if he doesnt like it.

I sling my TC's.  I still have 1 set of the original SSK Industries swivel studs and one set of the Uncle Mikes, they work great.
The only thing you should feel when shooting insurgents is recoil.

Thanks to all of you!!! I did wind up getting a Uncle Mikes shoulder holster in camo. I know you were being helpful in recommending not to climb a tree with a loaded gun and I would never even think of it and thanks for the reminder. Jimmy
