Police arm themselves with high-powered rifles

More than 100 St. Petersburg officers have ordered assault rifles.

High-powered rifles are increasingly visible in the Tampa Bay area, and with the expiration of a 10-year ban on their sale, law enforcement agencies fear they will see more.

So they are enhancing their own firepower. In recent years, Tampa police and deputies in Hillsborough and Pinellas started carrying assault rifles.

Officers say the rifles provide a layer of comfort, even if they have not had to fire a single shot beyond the practice range.

*FW Note:  "If the police continue to play at being an army of occupation, they should not be surprised when the citizens begin to play their role in return." -- J. D. TUCCILLE
They may talk of a "New Order" in the  world, but what they have in mind is only a revival of the oldest and worst tyranny.   No liberty, no religion, no hope.   It is an unholy alliance of power and pelf to dominate and to enslave the human race.

The "assault weapon" ban has expired, so the police, all of a sudden, have to meet the anticipated arms race?     'Gimme a break!

Somebody is way behind the times.  We've been carrying Mini-14's in all our squad cars for the past 4-5 years, since the shootout in California with the guys wearing body armor and carrying assault rifles.  Our SWAT guys carry all their gear with them while on duty, MP-5's and AR-15's.   :sniper:
