Long eye relief or wide FOV?
« on: May 04, 2005, 02:03:43 AM »
I prefer longer eye relief.  It allows me to concentrate more on my shooting without concentrating on my getting scope bit.

What do you prefer, longer eye relief or wider field of view?

Once I determine how much eye relief I need I start comparing field of view and lean toward the scope with the most eye relief. I'm not brand loyal. That's why I have Burris, Pentax, and Leupold sopes. Burris and Pentax beat Leupold on field of view comparing 1.5x6 and 2x8 scopes.

Eye relief is key for me, I shoot a lot of big bore guns and I know scope bit is not an option for me. Happen once and I learned my lesson. Most good scopes like my Leupolds give me a great mix of both.  :-)

I would give up some field of view for a little more eye relief in most rifle scopes. After all if you can't point your rifle within twenty feet of a big game animal at 100 yds. then your stock doesnt fit you or your scope is two high, low, forward, back, you get the picture, or maybe you don't and thats why you can't find the deer in your scope.  :)

I will take the Long Eye Relief, at least with the calibers I shoot most.
