New Mexico Bears.

I'm planning an August hunt in the Ruidoso/Cloudcroft areas of New Mexico this August.  Anyone who has any information, would appreciate the tips.  Thanks!

Are you using an outfitter, or doing a do it yourself hunt?  I lived in Alamogordo, during the mid 80s.  There was several guides there then using hounds for bear.  I hunted the Sunspot area out of Cloudcroft.  Got lots of Mulies there, wife got a Black Bear there with a .58 Springfield.  It was a nice area then, I haven't been back since.

No outfitter.  This year is going to be a do it yourself operation.  I scored very big on a do it yourself spot and stalk bear hunt last year up in Washington.  I can't seem to shake the "bear fever", but due to lack of sufficient funding, I'm having to stay closer to home this year.  There seems to be a fairly high density of bears in these units of the Lincoln National Forest, so I'm going to give it a go.  Thanks for the feedback, and for taking the time to respond..............Brian

doorgunner, I am definitely not a bear expert, but a friend of mine hunted the area 2 yrs ago and had good luck hunting the water holes.  He saw several bears and shot one I believe weighed about 200 lbs.
