Question on Finish Reamers
«

I am looking at making a second barrel for a martini takedown I have. It is .22 cal and going to add a 17hm2 barrel.
Are the Finish reamers sold by brownells such that they can cut the chamber without opening it first? As long as you go slow...
Thanks..

Finish reamers aren't designed to remove much metal. They burnish as much as cut. I would strongly advise removing the bulk of the metal with a drill if not using a roughing reamer. It could probably be done but would not be advisable.

Yes, you can use finishing reamers to do chambers, that is all I use. They cut just fine. A drill may not start dead center in bore, so you need a pilot. A roughing reamer just saves wear on a finishing reamer.

Rough your hole to .010" undersized and use a feedrate of .005"-.010" per tooth for best surface finish results. We use carbide adjustable reamers in the mold shop with great success. (You can "sneak" up on your finished diameter with these)
