223 Ultra -2nd range trip
« on: April 27, 2005, 02:21:48 PM »
Well, my 223 Ultra still doesn't like the WWB stuff, but it loves Black Hills 40gr NBT, Ultramax 40gr NBT, and Ultramax 52gr HP about equally.  it's all remanufactured stuff.  The Black Hills is the leader by a slight margin so I ordered a bunch.

Not bad at all for a "junk" rifle.  I had guys on either side of me with Rem 700's and Leupold scopes etc that were eyeballing my NEF w/Simmons scope and looking at my targets with drool pooling up in their mouths.  But, they were all too proud to inquire about it.  None of them were even shooting MOA with their fancy rifles.  Ahhh...  That was fun!   8)

Best part is when they say " I gotta get one of those."

Real good shooting! I'm waiting for delivery of a Ultra Trappers Federation Comm (Gray stocks yet) in 223. I was just going to get a 45-70 barrel and not even both with the 223 barrel. Your post makes me think I had better at least shot it to see what I have. Again, good shooting. I also like to see you mention those two remanufactured loads. They are sold in almost every sportings good store around here.

Mac:
To tell you the truth, I bought the rifle just to get the stocks. But I wanted a 26 inch 45-70 anyway, so I figured this would give me both the longer barreled 45-70 and a unique receiver and stock at the same time. Some of us have the bug so bad we feel we need (want) one of everything. Now if I could just find a set of those red stocks like MSP Ret fell into. I'd pay gooood money for them. It is an illness!!

??? I think I was commenting on how your "sweet" rifles performance impressed me so much that I felt I shouldn't discard my 223 without first testing it. (???) I'm confused! Did we step on toes by visiting like that? Again, those are some great targets showing excellant shooting. Thank you for sharing them.

Naw, the topic started changing from the original topic to colored stocks.  Carry on.

I wish shops around here carried Black Hills blue box, but none do.  It's good stuff.
