One powder for .35 Rem and .45.70?

I'm trying to keep cost down, anyone loading both the .35 and the .45.70 using the same powder?  I'm thining I'll load Remington 200 grain corelots for the .35 and Remington 405 grain corelots for the .45.70..........This is just an idea and suggestions welcome......Thanks!  VC

I use H4895 in both of those calibers.You can get top end loads with the .35 and with the 45-70 you can get some pretty good loads,up in the 1800fps range,with the 405 rems,you just won't be able to wring out top velocity in the 45-70,if that's what you are looking for.H4895 has not let me down for either of these cartridges.Hope this helps.

I'm not concerned about top velocity.......there is nothing.......and I repeat nothing......around these parts that requires a max load from a 45.70....maybe if the circus came to town......or I was hunting at the zoo...........I would like a good powder that burns clean and gives very good accuracy in both calibers......I'm not really set on the 405 grain bullet, but the Remington 405 grain bullets are priced right as well as the .35 200 grain Remingtons...better than half the price of the common reloading companies.........One thing for sure, the Corelots have probably killed more game than any other bullet in North America....I see no benefit in premium bullets for the game around these parts..........I might shoot lead if the price were right........I'm not into the wiz bang, but find pleasure from using the old tried and true..........I'm thinking I'll start looking for a good deal on a .32 special next...........after all......dead is dead........

I'd love to have suggestions on possible bullet / powder combinations that produce the above on these calibers.......Thanks.....VC

Good luck finding a good 32 special for some reason these seem to have more worn bores than the 30/30s do. I do not really buy into the using black powder theory as the 32 special was loaded with smokeless but who knows? All I know is the few 32 specials that I have looked at down the bores had crappy bores compared to equally used 30/30's

OK, since nobody has mentioned it, I'll say Varget. About like 4895 but cleaner. Realistically, anything between 4198 and 4064 from any of the manufacturers will work fine. 2230-C would be good, and it's really cheap. Take your pick.

ive had real good luck with benchmark in both but its a little on the slow side and requires a full case of powder in most loads. Varget is another one that ive had real good luck with along with 4198 and 4895

I would use 3031 as a first choice with 4198 as a second choice but 4895 is also a good choice as is any powder likely to be in that general burn rate range.

IMR4198 is what I use for both.

It would be hard to beat RE-7 for both.

I would go with H4198.
This powder WILL give you top velocities (as much as your shoulder can handle) with the 45/70 & will work good with the 35 Rem too !

I use H-322 in both. I do use mag primers in the 45/70 though. I was getting some unburned residue with the std primers.  KN
