Anyone shooting the ruger 22/45 ,how do you like it and does shoot good?Looking at one with 5.5 bull barrel $280 out the door is that good price?

I've never shot the 22/45, but have shot a bunch of MKIIs over the years. Same basic functions and internals, so I'll offer my thoughts.

I LOVE THE MKIIs!!!

I think they shoot well, are priced fairly, and will last for many years... If you're a tinkerer, there are lots of aftermarket goodies available, too.

The 22/45 differs primarily in grip shape and mag release functions. Grip shape is personal, but remember- it's a lot harder to change the grip shape on a 22/45 than it is to change grips on an MKII...

I'm not real familiar with 22/45 pricing, as I have chosen instead to focus on the MKII pistols. The 22/45 is usually a little cheaper than the "same" model in the MKII. Synthetic frame vs. steel frame is the usual explanation.

That said, I think $280 is plenty, especially if it's blued. Check around gunbroker.com and others to compare similar models.

Also, consider heading on over to MarkII.org. Lots of good info here on Graybeard, but the MKII site is naturally more specific.

I love the MKIIs too -- the main problem with them is trigger backlash (the trigger continues to move after the sear trips.) But that's simple to solve -- drill and tap the trigger blade for a set screw, then screw it in until it stops rearward travel but still releases the sear. Mark, file flush, and re-install with a dab of nail polish to hold it in place.

Hard to go wrong with any of the Ruger MK 1 , II or 22/45 series IMHO. While I preffer (and own) the all steel MK II, my buddy has a 22/45. He consistantly outshoots guns costing 3x as much during our weekly league .

Bill I have a stainless 22/45 as you describe. I think that is a fair price for one in excellent considition, but that all depends upon what guns in general go for in your area.

Mine is very accurate and takes most brands of ammunition, but I have found exceptions that sometimes have trouble feeding. I haven't fired it in a while and don't remember which ones they were. I don't really shoot much 22 rimfire. It balances nicely and I find the trigger acceptable.

Problems are in finding a holster for it. I happened to be over at the Ruger plant in Prescott a few years ago and spoke to one of the smiths over there about the front sight hanging up in a holster. He recommended grinding dow a back bevel. Did that and now I just carry it in one of those inexpensive Uncle Mikes nylon holsters.

Don't really have much for mine as I usually carry a centerfire pistol and the that Ruger just goes out when out plinking with rimfires.

I've had 22/45 for several years now and really like it. I tried the MKII, but the grip angle did not agree with me. IMO you cannot go wrong with this pistol. It puts the "F" in fun. The only ammo I've had problems with is the Winchester expert bulk. I don't shoot for groups but am more than satisfied with the accuracy of mine. It is also lots of fun with a red dot mounted.

The price seems high to me for a blued version. but considering the distance between us that could be a factor.

I paid $225 for a 5 inch 22/45 (or is it 45/22)? last year, brand new, two mags. The thing shoots like a house afire, only problem with it has been the bargain basement Remington ammo at Wal-Mart, some mis-fires here, but the accuracy is outstanding even with this cheap ammo. I had a gunsmith in Deary, Idaho put a trigger on this, just by taking out the creep he managed a 2 1/4 pound trigger and it is a dream to shoot with this trigger. The thing is reliable as can be, and the grip really agrees with my hand. Couldn't go bad with one, for sure.

The 22/45 is a good gun for the money. Mine is a 5 inch bull barrel and I bought 8 years ago and it shoots anything you put in it. Steve 48

I bought one a 5" bull barreled model when they first came out, I got the first one I could find, Paid $175 for it. I still have it and after several thousand rounds and a lot of abuse its still one of my favorite pistols. With a steady hand it'll shoot good groups but it really shines poppin cans.

The big reason for the plastic grip is that it matches a 1911 style pistol in grip shape and control location so its good for 1911 practice without the expence of firing .45s.

I have a 22/45 blue with 6 7/8 gov barrel, factory drilled and tapped for scope mounting. Although I have never scoped it, the thing is a tack driver and never malfunctions. I hate to do it, but I may give it up to finance a Super Single Six hunter. I won't if I can swing it. The only thing I don't care for on the 22/45 is the grip is a little slick. I put on some cheap grip tape for a while then took it off.
