What is the lightest bullet you hunters have used with good results for deer in the 270? Does anyone make a good 120 grain bullet? I have a new 270 on layaway and am starting to look for components. I quess the 130 is the most popular. I have been using 120 grain bullets in the 280 and 7mm-08 for mule deer. but have not seen a 120 grain for the 270. I know some use the 110 grain Sierra.

James B,
'Bout 30 years ago I was bound and determined to make a light bullet shoot in my Model 70 Winchesters chambered for the 270. I purchased the 90 grain Sierra. I don't know if it is available today or not. Regardless, I tried everything I knew at that time to make it shoot M.O.A. But, most of the time it didn't. Velocity was vicious though--in the neighborhood of 3500 fps if I remember correctly. I gave up on the light bullets in my 270's. Today I own 4 of them and the 140 grainers are the most accurate in all of them. My Model 70 that I use for hunting deer will shoot them into 3/4" at 100 yards and I have several 2" groups at 300 yards. I have often thought that a 120 grainer might be worth a try. I am uncertain that any company makes them. I have long since mostly quit reloading jacketed bullets. Cast bullets have become my time consumer at this point in time. I do shoot a 150 grain cast from a Model 700 in 270 Winchester cartridge that is an M.O.A. shooter out to 300 yards. I have several ten-shoot groups at 100 yards that hover right at 1.0 inch. Guess those 270's prefer a bit heavier bullet. Good-luck...BCB

>270`s seam to love the 130-150 range, and the best is a 140 Boattail. Beleive it or not, I hade a Rem 700 .270 shooting 130s and 150s shooting almost exactly the same, both being stock Rem ammo in the green box, great stuff. Jack.

I've tried 90 grain Sierra's in a few 270s, but none of them were very accurate with them. The velocity also falls off very quickly, and this bullet wouldn't be very good on deer anyway.
You'll be hard pressed to beat a 130g Sierra Game King in my book.

Thanks guys. I would like to see a 120 grain Nosler Ballistic tip. I had a 760 Rem pump that would group the 130 BT into 1 inch at 200 yards on a good calm day.
