Author Topic: Progressive Reloading Presses and Squib Loads? (Read 515 times)

From time to time I have loaded squib loads. This can happen often while using progressive presses. I have heard that there is a powder die that will let you know when a case doesn't have any powder in it. I think the Hornaday Co. calls theirs, "Charge Cop."

Does this die work and is it worth buying. I am going nuts checking every bullet case for powder. It defeats the purpose of the progressive press.

Any thoughts on this guys? :cry:

There are such dies out there, and I'd like to know what you find. I use the Dillon press and it is very reliable. However, I am not. I was distracted once and I advanced a case before charging it. Fortunately there was no harm done.

If you're getting a lot of this, I suspect either some repairable flaw in your press, or some fault in your technique (i.e., getting distracted.)

RCBS makes a powder lock out die for around $35.00. If you undercharge or overcharge a case, it will bring your attention to the problem. A shooting partner of mine is using one and thinks it's the best thing since sliced bread. I would get one, but I'm about to sell my Dillon and go back to a turret press. HTH,

Why are you selling the Dillon to go back to a Turrent press? In my humble opinion that's going backwards. In any event what model Dillon press is it and how much do you want for it. (If your having a problem with the Dillon throwing the correct charge weight, call them and let them know. 99% of the time it is operator error. If its not they will take care of it.) :?

i know dillon makes one, i had one with the 650 i had (my brother has it now). dillon wants $65 for them. he uses it and says it works great. i have no idea about the one rcbs makes, but i would guess that if they put their name on it, it is probably a safe bet.

I USE A RCBS PROGRESSIVE PRESS AND I FOUND THE (LOCKOUT DIE )
DETECTS NO POWDER CHARGE OR DOUBLE POWDER CHARGE VERY GOOD ,BECAUSE NO POWDER IS JUST AS BAD AND DANGEROUS.
