new here but going to Namibia
« on: March 19, 2005, 12:31:07 AM »
Hello all: I am newly registered with GBO though I have read the site in the past.
I have put a deposit on an 8 day safari in NW Namibia for plains game. There is really only 3 animals I'm interested in, Kudu,Gemsbuck, Hartman's zebra but should I run into a nice big warthog he's coming home with me too!
Naturally I have a ton of questions. The booking agent here in the states has given me a contract an been good about answering the questions I posed to him. But still I'm going 10,000 miles away from home to hunt.
I am going late August - early Sept 2006.
Which airlines should I be looking at? I heard SAA is bad but more direct than going to Frankfort Germany then onto Windhoek, Namibia.
Also do you guys use an import company,ie coppersmith to get your trophies into the USA? I live in eastern Pa I could go to either NYC Baltimore to pick them up myself to save a few $ on trucking if need be.
 Thanks Gemsbuck

Unfortunately SAA is about the only option for a direct flight.  I have read that they are supposed to reconfigure the Airbus plane that everyone is complaining about.  We'll see if that happens.

Here goes. You will be able to fly from Dulles on SAA and they are using 747s on the route. It stops in Accra, Ghana for refueling no deplaning and on to Joberg. Stay in international terminal for flight to Windhoek and no hassel with SA gun regulations. I use Samuel Shapiro & Co. for importing in Baltimore - great people, I deal with Genia Blades. Charges for last year were $314.50. Phone # 410-539-0540.

You may want to add the Springbok to your list as that area has very good heads.  Are you hunting a ranch or conservency?
