Scope mounts

I just got a dandy of 760 chambered in 35 Rem.  It's on its way to the gunsmith to rechamber to 35 Whelen.  It has peep sights on it, and I would like to put a Leupold 2x7 or 3x9 on it and was wondering, what is everyone's prefered way to mount a scope on the 760.  I'm not just talking rings, but mount too.  My 760 in 300 savage has a Redfield mount on it with weaver rings, all late 50's early 60's vintage.  What do you run, and what are my choices.

I use Weaver rings and bases. Not very fancy, but effective. I am wondering though, will a 35 Whelen work on a 35 Rem action. I got rid of a 35 Rem last fall and was sorry I didn't keep it and have it rechambered to 358 Win.

It is my understanding that they are all the same action, and the only thing that changes is the magazine.  The Gander Mtn web page even states "Alter Remington model 760 From 35 Rem. to 358 Win or 35 Whelen  -  $140.00"

I wasn't sure, but I had to ask.

I have scopes on 2 of my pumps. Both have Leupold mount/rings. Have not had a problem to speak of.

I have a 760 chambered for the .300 Savage with regular Weaver bases and rings and a 3x Leupold.  I have a 7600 in .280 Remington and a 760 in .300 Savage with Williams receiver (peep) sights.  Weaver also makes, or did make, a flip over mount which allows you to swing the scope out of the way for quick access to the barrel-mounted sites.  I don't know if they are still available but I do see them on the various firearms auction sites from time to time.

I have a .280 cut to carbine 7600 with a 1.5 x 5 Vari-X III Leupold scope. Used the Leupold base and rings. Excellent set-up with no issues!
