I just won a Kimber Eclipse II which is the Friends of the NRA gun of the year. What can you tell me about this gun?

I have 2 Colt 1911s (not A1s) and the 1911 was my TO weapon while I was in the Marines so I am familiar with the 1911 guns just not the Kimber. Would this pistol be adequate for Bullseye?

kimbers are junk. :shock: damn, i cant believe i typed that without a lightning bolt hitting me.

i used to own several fine combat auto 45's. then i bought a kimber. now it is the only 45 i own. i wouldnt give mine up for nothing. i am green with envy.

First off, let me say you won a very nice Kimber, congrats.

I think you have the makings of a very nice target gun. It does come out of the box with great ajust. sights and trigger pull. Nice bll. too.

Keep us up to date on how she shoots.

ive got a commander sized versoin and after some teething problems its been a good gun

Friends of NRA must have obtained a few of these. I won a Kimber Eclipse at the Annual Meetings this year. Best $20.00 pocket knife and raffle ticket I ever bought. If the small knife doesn't scare off the bad guys the Kimber in my other hand will probably work.

Pistoleer: you're one lucky man. That Kimber is a fine piece of equipment. It may be accurate enough for bullseye but those are designed as carry guns. There was a recent Gun Tests comparison with the shorter version, the Eclipse II (?), and it was the gun of choice.

Now, ifin ya'll don't want it, well just send it right on over heah and Ol Mikey will make sure it gits shot proper, and often, and will make double sure I break it in right so jes in case ya'll ever wants it back ya'll will know it works right (lol)........ Mikey.

Gee Mikey, I have had the same offer from several people. :lol:

I still haven't shot it yet but it does have a nice trigger. I have shot 1911s for over 40 years but a couple of things in the owners manual surprised me.

The first was not to ease the hammer down but to dry fire it so as not to "mar the sear tip".

The other was not to let the slide slam home on an empty chamber but to ease it home. My Marine Platoon Sergeant would have a fit if I would have done while executing inspection arms :-) I have read that before but never worried about it too much with my old Colts. Maybe I'll start doing it with them also.

I think you will find once you go kimber you won't go back, I have the target tle II excelent target shooter. The only 1911 I ever tried that I liked better was an ed brown custom.

I shot the Kimber some this week end. Nothing very formal just some plinking to try the trigger and see where it shot. Pretty much point of aim at 15 yards or so. the only problem i had was with the grip safety. I have to really get into the gun in order to get a good trigger. I was thinking I might put a stick on rubber furniture bumper to see if that helps. The trigger is crisp. I recall from one of "Gun Test" articles on various 1911s one of the things they looked for as whether the gun could be fired while resting the thumb on the thumb safety. If it could that was good. On this gun I don't seem to get the grip safety in enough when resting my thumb on the thumb safety :? .

Like I said I am thinking of getting into indoors bullseye and I think this gun will do for that. What range do they shoot at? Anyone know?

I was looking at the Kimber Eclipse Custom II in 10mm. I noticed that Kimber has reverted to the internal extractor instead of the external extractor that they are using on their 45s. I'm not sure it makes a big difference. The piece is very nice but it is also about $1,200.00 retail.
