Took the Plunge-Ordered Taurus 455SS4
« on: April 23, 2005, 01:02:29 AM »
I'm new to Taurus firearms, but Davidsons is having such a good deal on the 445SS4 (.45 acp, 4" barrel, stainless, ported, revolver)--$330.00--that I felt compelled to order one.

It's for my wife for home defense.  I figure that the porting and the ribbed grip will reduce recoil enough to make it comfortable for her.

It's more potent than a .38, yet I anticipate that it won't recoil like a .357.  If my wife doesn't like it, then I'll have to shoot it for her! :D

I've always been intrigued by these .45 acp revolvers.  I think it's a great concept, but according to Taurus' website they stopped producing them.

I've heard the good and the bad about Taurus, so I'll have to wait and see how this one turns out.  At this price I won't mind if I have to send it back to the factory for a tune up.  If it turns out to be a lemon I can probably sell it for what I paid.

I think Taurus makes a pretty good handgun. I am also a hugh fan of .45acp. and Im finding that Im wanting one in a 6 shooter.

Yes, I hear there are mixed reviews on them. I have a .44MAG. 8/38" inch bll. Raging bull. I am pretty happy with it. Dont have much time with it yet. But, the time I have had with it has been well spent. Good luck. Keep us posted.

Picked up the new Taurus (4" .45acp tracker revolver)  Friday after work.  Took it to the range Sunday afternoon.

Before going to the range I gave it a thorough cleaning.  I was VERY impressed by the build quality.  Fewer machine marks than I've seen on Ruger handguns and MUCH better fit and finish than what I've seen on Colt's from the late 1990s.  Fit and finish was probably second only to S&W--and not by much.

I only got to shoot ten rounds--two cylinders full--through it.  Technically, I bought it for my wife and I want her to regard it as her gun so she'll want to go to the range and practice with it.  Therefore, I let her shoot it first, and I asked her for permission to use it.

Trigger pull was good/very good.  The ribber grip and the porting really tamed the .45acp recoil.  With respect to the porting, I expected to see a lot of flash, but I saw none, even though the day was overcast.  I was shooting a .22 mag handgun during the same range session, and that, by comparison had lots of muzzle flash.

I am a very happy customer.  I'd buy the 2" .45 acp Tracker (or any of the other tracker revolvers) for myself in a heartbeat.

I have a Taurus® 617 SS2  (2¼" Barrel) 357 Mag that's the "short barrel" version of the Mdl 627 Tracker. It's a keeper! I plan to get a Tracker in 357 or 41 Mag for my birthday later this month. Let us know how it goes.
