Dirty Cases
« on: May 18, 2005, 05:14:33 AM »
Hello,

I just got done reloading a batch of 9mm cases. For some reason, there was alot of black stuff on the outside of the cases.  I have heard that this could be caused by an under-powered load. (not expanding enough to seal the gases).  Using 100 grain hornady bullets on top of 5.7 grains power pistol.  Any suggestions or insite would be great.

thanks,

Check your crimp if it's not crimped enough the bullet leaves before the pressure builds and allows blowback.  You'll probably always have some "black stuff" on the case.

Incomplete ignition can cause this also. Such as using std primers with H110. Basically you are correct that the cases are not expanding enough.  KN
