Author Topic: BEARCAT (and single six) fixed sights (Read 1473 times)

Howdy,
I absolutely LOVE my Ruger Single Six 5.5" NM with adjustable sights. I *want* a BEARCAT. My only concern is with the fixed sights. Are they set for a specific ammo and distance? Is Ruger good about shipping them POA=POI?

I got one about six months ago, and love it! It shoots very well to poa at 25 yds or less. I can hold about a 5-6" group on paper offhand. I know that ain't GREAT, but for a fixed sight plinker, it's not too shabby.
Did have to send it back to the factory to fix a possible mis-drilled chamber...I get five good ones, then a keyholing flyer. Not worried about the svc with Ruger...know they'll take care of it. IMHO, a neat gun to have in the collection!

I have a blued Bearcat. The accuracy isn't all that great as noted, but it basically shoots POA.
My Vaquero though is another story. Low & left. A common complaint I've heard.
It is a cute little gun. I sort of wish I got one in SS. It's small enough to leave in a tackle box if I wasn't worried about rust.

Have an old model SS with drift-adjustable rear sight. Never had to move it - it shoots very tight groups 2" above POA at 50 ft., and group size is about same as the new model SS with adjustable sights.

I have an old model Bearcat and love it. It shoots good groups also. When I first bought it several years ago, I tried a couple of different brands of ammo in it. It was shooting a couple of inches left. I thought, not a big deal, I'll just screw the barrel in a little more when I get around to it and I put it away for a while. Got it back out a little while back and tried another type of ammo (Rem Goldens but I don't remember if solids or H.P.?) and bingo, it shot right to point of aim. Lesson learned. Try several different kinds of ammo before you go messing with it. Buy that Bearcat, they are great little guns! 44 Man

Love my Bearcats. Shoots poa and is fairly accurate.

I've been waiting for the opportunity to dote on the ruger single sixes and bearcats!
This spring I bought two of the fixed sight vaquero type 5.5" barreled single sixes, one for me and one for my girlfriend.
Her's shoots right on the money with federal american eagle, mine shoots slightly low (you have to cover the target with the sight picture) but nothin' that a little kentucky windage can't compensate for.
I wished I'd done that years ago, initially my Girlfriend gave me the 'look' but once I took her out and set up some cans in front of her She went through a hole carton of shells in the first session, since then she's been a single six junkie.
Don't pass up the opportunity to enjoy some great guns!!

My Single Six is the old model, sight is driftable for windage. Have never moved it just use CCI ammo in it shoots POA. My old, old Bearcat same way, just experiment with ammo. You'll love em.

I have a Blued Bearcat, a 5 1/2" SS Single Six with adjustable sights, and have just ordered a SS Bearcat. While I love the little guns, the sights are hard for me to use. They still shoot pretty well, but they are so small and light they are more difficult to shoot up to their capability. The Single Six shoots a little better, and being heavier, with a longer barrel and more visible sights, is easier to shoot up to it's potential.
