Do you put the order form in the box with the receiver when you ship it to NEF for a barrel?

Cookieman, you don't have to include any "order form" unless it's the one with the red on it AND you are taking advantage of the discounts on it, and I don't believe you are. I ususally include a very precise and detailed letter stating everything I want done, I always include my phone number and tell them to call me if there are ANY questions (they never have). Also be specific on the trigger job. I always tell them I only want the trigger job if it's FREE, that I do want to pay for it, you can ask they bring it down to 2.5 to 3.5 pounds or as low as they can go, for FREE. Also you can ask for a test target, I always do but never recieve one!!!....<><.... :grin:

Put Attention JON on the letter in the box...and also on the outside of the box...this is the gunsmith at NEF that will work on your rifle...he is very good...like MSP said...tell them exactly what you want done...like the trigger pull weight and so on...or if you don't want it changed...be specific...include all part numbers your wanting...along with your instuctions...

Thanks for the help.  I guess I will have to call on Monday.  I didn't know they would do a 'Trigger job for free'.   I already mailed everything out by the time I got this.  I found instructions on the website and just scanned in the form off the back of the brochure that came with my gun.  Got anxious to get it out in todays mail before the post office closed.  Perhaps I should ask for Jon when I call.

Nope...won't do anygood to try to get in touch with JON...the best you can do...is to call and talk with John...in C/S...the other employees that work on the floor aren't allowed to talk with the customer anymore...

No problem on the free trigger job Cokieman, it's free if the trigger is over 5 lbs, otherwise they charge. Just call CS speak to John or Jennifer and tell them you want the trigger checked and that you think it is to heavy, also ask/instruct them to do a trigger job only if it's free and that you are asking because the trigger is way to heavy, ask them to reduce it to as light as they can go. I think that is 3.5 lbs. because of the compoany lawyers...it's worked for me in the past. Honesty and being forthright still works in most instances....<><.... :grin:

One more question.  Do you think they have the 45-70 barrels in extractor config. yet.  Would it be worth asking about?  That would sure be a bonus, especially if there is no price difference.

Rich, the 45-70 isn't prone to the brass sticking and you can convert an ejector to an extractor real easy, it just won't be a mechanical extractor, but it works fine. I converted my 45-120 BC to an extractor so the $2 brass isn't thrown into the next county. For hunting, I would prefer an ejector if I had a choice. A selectable ejector/extractor would be the cat's meow!!!! :-D In answer to your question, you can request an extractor, but you'd have to wait for them to build the barrel that way, rather than just them taking a premade barrel from their inventory, the wait may be much longer.

Thanks quick.  That's what I was wondering.  I had read that they were changing over to extractors.  Didn't know if they had started or not.  I don't want to wait.  I have those instructions on that conversion....someone posted them before and I saved it in anticipation of the coming 45-70.  I have a dremel so it will be easy to do.  I think I will see if I can get the mechanics of my shooting down and include, somehow, catching the cartriges.  Who knows, the competition shooters do it with shotguns, maybe I can figure something out to keep em from bouncin on the ground.  You are right about 1 thing, if you ever need a 2nd shot you could miss the oportunity in the time it takes to pull the shell instead of it ejecting.

I just cup my hand behind the breech when I hit the latch release, I usually catch the brass but sometimes I drop it too when at the bench.

Checked out the Cabelas site.  We have one about 40 miles away....good rainy day trip and it will be fun.  Haven't been there yet "this year".LOL  Hey, what's with the shotgun brass.  Never saw that before...heard about it, but didn't know anyone still made it.

Rich, aside from the shopping experience at Cabelas, with gas at $2.50 a gallon, an 80 mile trip could easily cost more than the $8 shipping charge.......and hopefully they would have everything in stock at the store! There are places to buy just about anything you want......IF you want to pay the price!!!! Even $$$ 5mm Remington Magnum rimfire  ammo$$$!!!!
