new to air guns my review on the two i just bought
« on: May 07, 2005, 02:29:58 PM »
I am new to airguns meaning sriously thinking about playibng with them.  i bought a daisy powerline 990 177 cal and put the 3-9X32 daisy on it. the first thing is  it is a entry level gun to me seems pretty nice, light not alot of power but good enough to hit cans and stuff. the rings that came with the scope were aluminum and have phillips heads on them which i tend to burr up today  i bought a springer. it is a crossman 1000X quest. i had been looking for  a 1000 fps pellet gun and considered the gamo shadow the daisy powerline package w the 3-9X32 scope abnd this rifle.  i bought this rifle as it had a scope stop built in had an adjusting trigger and came with a crossman 4X32 scope.  got the gun home opened it up and the metal to wood fit was really good  the only thing that i did not like at this point was the fiber optic front sight was to high when mounting the scope/ which i removed and that the rings came with phillips head screws to but the rings together.  i went and bought 5 different typoe of pellets  i bought copperhead hypervelocity hunting pellets. crossman premier hollow points gamo hunter dome pellets gamo match pellets and gamo magnum pointed pellets.  i sighted it in at 15 yards to be 1/2 inch high at that range figured that should be good to almost 40 yards.
the wind was horrible gusting top 20 mph at times so sighting in was a challenger  i sighted in with the gamo magnums as i heard a good report on them   accuracy wasnt all that good with them  i went to the gamo match and  the accuracy imporved a good deal went through the hunters and the  copperheads accuracy was about average groups under an inch at 15.  the last ammo i tried was also the cheapest came packed in 500  and was the  crossman preimer hollowpoints.  at 15  i was shooting literally  in less than a half inch and very consistant.   i went and got some coke cans and coke bottles filled them up with water  i shot all the different types of pellets at them  and the most dramatic was the  gamo match ammo which was awesome and the hollowpoints blew the back side off all of them.  this was pretty impressive
i am hooked on these springers  they are  pretty powerful and i only paid 99.00 for itl
