Rechamber M-99 .300 Sav to .308 WCF?
« on: February 16, 2003, 07:49:18 AM »
Found a like new M-99E  in .300 Savage for $395.00.  Can this be rechambered to .308?  Is this a good buy?

I don't know if the price is right but why would you want to go to a .308 from a perfectly good cartridge like the .300 Savage?  The ballistics are very similar and the recoil is much less than the .308.  Is it the wide availability of commercial .308 ammo?  Just curious because I'm a huge fan of the .300 Savage.  In fact, I'm actually eye-balling one of those new Remington Classics in the old round.

Well just thought the .308 would be more practical. More ammo available, more brass, etc.   I am familiar with the simliarity between the  300 & 308. In fact, you can die form .300's from .308 cases. Maybe a better way to go than rechambering?
