Installing a timney trigger on a winchester m70
« on: May 05, 2005, 10:17:06 AM »
I'm thinking of buying a timney trigger for my model 70 winchester, can anyone tell me if they are hard to install.I don't know any gunsmiths around here.My factory trigger doesn't break at the same weight on every shot. That kind of scares me.

Thanks guys

The M70 trigger is adjustable and is really a good trigger.  How widely does the pull weight vary?  Have you checked it with a guage?  How did you use the guage?  Have you worked on the trigger that's on the rifle now?  How old is the rifle?  Perhaps this should be an issue for Winchester to address.  As to fitting the Timney, it's not too hard.  Some models require the sear to be set to allow the safety to function correctly.  Some models are a simple drop in.  A little more info might be a good idea.

Jake,  I don't have anything to add to what gunnut69 has said, but I want to take a moment to thank gunnut69 for the good advice that he gives on this forum.  It is much appreciated!

Thanks gwindrider1,,  I try to help when I can but it's all just opinions.  Some gained the hard way though!  The M70 trigger is nice and open.  Not prone to gumming up and fairly simple to adjust.  The latest variations are made with less attention that the earlier but are still adjustable.  Some of the new generation may require re-springing to get where we need to be..
