35 Remington shooters sound off
« on: April 07, 2005, 09:14:41 AM »
Hi Guy`s,

PMC is going to look into making this Starfire load for the 35 Remington.Heres what PMC posted.

Thank you for all your responses gentelmen. We will be discussing the possibility of this load at the next gathering. I have done a bit of searching myself and have seen numerous other forum posts on other boards regarding the .35 Rem. Personally, I think it would be a rather popular round, so I am putting it on top of the list.

Keep those votes coming, gives me more ammo in the board room

New 35 Rem owner here. I'm all for any new ammo coming out for this gun. I have not shot it yet but can't wait.

Done and it was quite easy.  Now that they have noticed, a few more folks weighing in on the PMC site will help out.  The Remington factory stuff is anemic and the Buffalo Bore is just too expensive at $39 per box.

Ho Hum, no interest here. The old 200 grain round nose bullet as made by Remington, Hornady and a host of other will do all the round is capable of. There is no better bullet for this round and no other is needed.

Couldnt agree with GB more. Mine loves the Fed Classic 200gr. Whitetails up to 250 lbs usually dont go anywhere with any decent shot. But generating interest in an oldie is always high on my list.

Maybe if they upped the velocity 50fps and called it the .35 rem supermiddlelengthshortactionultramildmag and chambered it in a fancy bolt gun with a muzzlebrake and a vent rib they would have something for the gunwriters to talk about.

Im all for anyone creating a new factory load.  As everyone has said, their rifle likes the remington 200 gr or possibly the 150 gr or federal or winchester.  This just would give one more option to see if your rifle shoots it any better then the others.  Sure the factory stuff around now does just fine and my 30-06 is probably makes more since to use (in certain settings) but that is boring,  its fun to have options.

I will try out handloading as soon as funds allow but even then I will buy factory stuff just to try and keep a small demand for this cartridge.

I don't think there will be a big demand.  The people who love and shoot the .35 Remington seem to love the classic, old fashioned nature of the cartridge, including the big round nose 200 grain soft point. These rounds are very effective for their intended purpose and will stop any deer or black bear at 150 yards or under, which is all that the carbines for which they are chambered are intended..

You will occasionally find a person who uses his .35 Remington for Elk etc., but the vast majority of people who are going to hunt an Elk will set aside their lever .35, and lift that scoped 30-06 or .300 mag from the gun cabinet.

If your company wants to go in this direction, then I respectfully suggest that you offer the Starfire round in the .358 Winchester instead.  This round has a cult following, and most people who love levers are going to buy one in this caliber sooner or later.   In the past year or two, there has been lots of interest shown in this round on this boad.  The production of the Marlin Guide Gun in big bore calibers has generated a yearning for new rifles in this caliber.

Sell good ammo in .358 Winchester, and people will buy it!

Best Regards,

Paul Amos

My Marlin loves the 200 gr Federal Classic Load.

BTW I've reverse engineered the load and it looks like BL-C(2) powder, sort of a spherical flake hybrid.  5 rounds 39.1 gr of powder which matches up with min-max loads in the manual.  I'm going to try some 200 gr corelokts with this powder and see if I get the same POI results.

Speer 180gr FN's with 40.5 Gr of BL- C(2) seem to perform as well in my rilfe as long as I do my part.

The .35 Remington cartridge is the most under rated round manufactured!  It is well loved by those of us familiar with the round.  If you can crank it up in power and improve it...go for it!  You must get get a few articles in some of the gun rags to shed some light on the .35 as to it's effectiveness...  advertise and enlighten the shooting public.  The .35 in the Marlin 336 is near perfection in a woods rifle.  If you could sell an updated product in .35 that is cranked up in power, an updated bullet AND is priced a little more than a standard 30-30 for example, you would have a hot seller!  I don't think that is ho-hum...I'd buy it!  BANG!  More BANG for the buck ( a two way pun..LOL)
