How is your physical condition....?
« on: April 27, 2005, 02:02:34 AM »
Talked with my Marine grandson yesterday..
He is preparing for deployment with a special Ops unit.
Yesterday morning test:
Swim a minimum of 100 meters with full weapon, gear, kevlar vest, canteen etc...

   Then:
Turn around, swim back....retrieve a live (but helpless) casualty with you...also in full gear...and drag him back again..

  Minimum total of 300 meters..

Josh passed with flying colors...now going for more gold..

Folks who complain about the " younger generation "..remember; they are not all couch potatoe, nintendo playing, rap yakkers...

I pray he will never need those skills in combat, but wonderful to have them.
As for me, I'm a physical wreck!
Artifical knees, reconstructed sholders, bad heart, high blood preasure- and those are the good things!
However, if they find me dead in the woods with my arms wrapped around my rifle, it's going to take the undertaker a half hour to wipe the smile off my face!

Good attitude, williek.  It's always best to have something positive to hang on to.

Ironglow, your grandson gives you and our country much to be proud of.  May he be safe.

Ironglow,

Sounds like one tough grandson. Congratulations, you must be proud. I could probably fit into that test, but only as the live (but helpless) casualty.

Thanks guys;
I am proud of Josh..  Actually, that was a very tough test and only a handful actually completed all three laps

I must remember he's not alone, he has many fellow Marines doing  the same training...

Should give the terrorists second thoughts...if they have any independant thought processes...outside the brainwashing they have gotten from "mullahs"..

Each time I go to visit him at his base, and meet his friends...I am continually impressed with the quality of today's troops.

Truly, they are "the cream of the crop"..

Thank him for me.
My cardiologist cut me loose, since I've developed periiperal artery diseas in my legs I can't walk fast enough to exercise my heart. Guess I'm headed for the happy hunting ground. Wonder if they allow caplocks up there.

Damd I'd definately fail that test. First thing I would do when I hit the water would be to cut loose all my gear to keep from drowning. Then if the water was nice and warm I could do the two laps, and then if the casualty was fat enough to float all his heavy gear I could use him as a kickboard to get him and my new gear back to the other side.

Slamfire,

I'll keep you in prayer. Put your faith in Christ and it won't  matter if they allow "caplocks" there.
