new gun???
« on: February 20, 2003, 10:27:34 AM »
wat kind of gun do you guy think is best for fox and yote hunting .  I herd that a 22-250 was about the best. i also herd it is about the flatest shooting gun at about 200yards. that is all the farther i want to shoot. I already have a 243, 7mm, 223. I want a new gun . so do you think the 22-250 is a good one to pick.
               Thanks
Thanks brig33

since you are only going to be using it for fox and coyotes and going to limit yourself to a 200 rard range as max. you already have the perfect rifle in the 223 for those conditions but if you just need to get a new gun there is nothing wrong with a 22-250 it is a good cal. :D   JIM

Brig33, any of the 3 calibers you already have will do the job well with the right loads with the .223 being optimum as already stated, but you'll love the 22-250 anyway.  Mine makes consistent kills between 400 and 600yds on a regular basis.  Buy one, practice with it and stretch your range.  Youll be amazed at what the firearm and the shooter are each capable of.  Enjoy! :agree:

I also shoot a 22-250 for fox hunting.  I have a Remington and Savage.  The Savage is my personal favorite.  It shoots a lot better than most guns on the market today.  The Savage will shoot faster and more accurate.  Yet the Savage is one of the more inexpensive guns on the market.  I have shot many deer and foxes at 400+ yards.  It should dop anything dead in its tracks.

Brigg33,
I'll put in another vote for the .22-250. I own a Savage that performs with the best of them. At 3855 f.p.s. this rifle will shoot a 1 hole group at 100 yards and 5 out of 5 shots inside a dime at 200 yards.

If you're looking for a different type of action, then I'd look at a Bushmaster or a D.P.M.S. which is semi-auto. They make great carry rifles and have reasonable accuracy for predator hunting.

Good hunting, Bowhunter57
