Trigger shoe for Hunter gun

Are trigger shoes prohibited for hunter class rifles?  I made one for my hunter gun but decided I had better check out the rules.  I've never seen anything prohibiting them perhaps someone else has........Don

I don't know of any reason why they would be restricted.

I'm pretty sure I saw a few in use on hunter guns at the Conard Cup a couple weeks ago. If they weren't trigger shoes, they were very wide custom trigger blades and that's less likely than just trigger shoes added to hunter guns.

I was told that trigger shoes were NOT legal for hunter class, only Std. Rifle are they allowed.   If you have a question like that I'd send a quick note to Greg at the NRA Silhouette office.

I looked and didn't see it posted/ spelled out in the rules, but I'm not sure if my rule book has all the latest changes, as it's an older book and I know there have been quite a few changes since then. Keep in mind a 'trigger shoe' is not an offering on the original factory rifle, so it's all in how you, or the officials, apply the rules.

What I do know for a fact is that a friend I shoot with had to take his trigger shoe off at the Nationals for them to let him shoot his rifle in hunter class (Remington 541), but that was a few years ago.

That's why I said to send a note to Greg (NRA) and get it in writting.  It's no fun practicing/shooting all year one way only to find out you have to change something when you get to a big match, then nothing 'feels' right and your whole day is ruined.

The problem is that everything underwent a major revision with the advent of the 'new' hunter rules.

At this time, hunter is actually less restricted in some areas than standard. (There is no specified comb height or drop at toe restriction on hunter -- just for examples.)
 
I've seen trigger shoes accepted at a number of registered matches (including recent nats) -- and passed them while running tech myself at state and regional levels. There is no rule prohibiting them that I can find -- and my book is up to date; as I stole it personally from Greg's desk in the trailer at last year's nats!
(OK, he gave it to me so those of us working as line officers would have it for reference...but it sounds more amusing the other way!) ;-)

Good to know Nomad...  As you know one of the problems has been the inconsistent applying of the rules and vagueness of the ones that are there that leads to different interpretations of them.   Which also lead to my comment about contacting Greg directly, Vs getting an opinion from the web community.
