Newsweek 'treasonous' over 'Quran-in-toilet' report

 

Fifteen dead, scores injured, relief buildings burned down. Years of coalition-building with the Muslim world against terrorist fanatics set back. Whether they stand behind their story or not, it's an easy story to believe.

Americans are no great respectors of those things that they do not, themselves, value.

Americans are going to prison for the mistreatment of prisoners of war.  There are documented instances of interrogators using every physical and psychological device in the book, including those known to be directly related to offending the Muslim religion.

From scantily dressed female interrogators smearing fake menstrual blood on prisoners faces, sexual degradation via simulation of homosexual acts to forced mastubation, physical electrical and chemical torture (partially outsourced), and the beating and drowning of restrained prisoners which has resulted in deaths among those prisoners.

Why is it so hard to believe that one of these thugs wouldn't violate a copy of the Quran?

In spite of the "almost" retraction, I believe that it probably happened.

The whole world needs to grow up if they find this so terrible. Why dont they riot when one of their buddies chops off a westerners head & tapes it so the whole world can see. Just one more reason to let these people rot in their own fecal matter.
I guess we as Americans are supposed to be above things like this, things that cant concievably compare with the way they treat western people who they know arent even combatants. Only problem is we are human too, & to be honest if I thought it would end this thing sooner or maybe save American lives I'd flush the prisoners head down the toilet.

We should not send our troops places if we expect them to be diplomats & not warriors. We should send a delegation of PETA members perhaps, they care so much about animals & such I think they could treat people who want them dead in a more humane manner than a US serviceman.

In an apology to readers this week, Newsweek acknowledged errors in a
story alleging US interrogators at Guantanamo Bay desecrated the Koran.
The accusations, which the magazine vowed to reexamine, spawned
protests in Afghanistan that left 15 dead and scores injured. "We
regret that we got any part of our story wrong, and extend our
sympathies to victims of the violence and to the US soldiers caught in
its midst," editor Mark Whitaker wrote in the apology. Newsweek
reported that US military investigators had found evidence that
interrogators placed copies of Islam's holy book in washrooms and had
flushed one down the toilet to get inmates to talk.
