We haven't had a civil war out here (yet.)

But organizing such an activity should be possible.  You northern Nevadans have several large unoccupied areas (Humboldt Sink, Black Rock Desert, others I am sure) that could serve as ranges.  It might even be possible to use a military range.  Someone would have to explore the details with the local government managers of the areas.  It would only take work on someone's part to get it started.

I've got several activities planned for that weekend, so I'll be there Friday afternoon for the mortar shoot, traveling back shortly thereafter.

Best place to neet would be at the base of the main range tower at 1:00-1:15pm before the match begins.

YO RaiderANV -

Welcome to the board!

You're right, that's a very good place to meet.  Roughly in the center of the range and a straight shot coming into the range right after crossing the bridge.

There is a map on their website.  If it is the same map as in previous years it has the same problems it's had for many years (which most folks complain about to no avail).  BUT there are many very friendly folks there to give you directions and comiserate with you about the quality of the map.

The time is a little to late to ask Graybeard for GBO baseball caps for identification (free of course) but maybe next year.

Hey Guys,

One of my employees came to me yesterday asking for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday off next week. Normally my company wants a little more notice than that, but when I asked him about it, it took about 0.1 seconds to approve. Seems he will be participating in the N-SSA competitions (rifle/carbine).

Can't think of a better reason to burn some vacation (and a lot of black powder).

Anyone planning to be at Ft. Shenandoah on Saturday the 21st?

Hey CW,
If that's a picture of the Fort then it's upside down and backwards as best I can tell. Can't see anything I recognize.

John,,,,best excuse for a few days off is the N-SSA! I'll be there Tuesday thru Sunday the 21st

It's a satellite picture with North at the top.  I've always felt the map of the place was turned around.

Try zooming at different levels and try both the image and the topo.  The picture could easily be 10 or so years old.

The area didn't look familiar to me either.  Try : N39293754  w78.240293  right sq. over the range with camp at the bottom.

N 39.293736  W 78.240294   Works much better!!!  THANKS!

So, if it's repeatable, this should be right next to the tower.

Since one has the topo and image options, one can work back to a broader perspective map.

It would be great if ya'll would wear something so we can find you during the match. I'm not shooting my gun this spring, but will be walking the line during the match, and will hopefully get picked up to crew during the cannon match. If we can get togeather maybe I can get you up close and personal to the gun and crew you would like to meet, be more than glad to assist. The only article of clothing that I always wear is a butternut kepie and glasses. I'll be leaving Wed. so send me something to look for and I'll try to find ya'll. If I do miss you have a great trip to my favorite place in the world - Ft Shenandoah -Oh yea-check the camp site directory for the 7th North Carolina Vols. and come by the camp site, we're on top the hill and would love to have you visit
 :D
See you there

It's tough to say what we'll be wearing - everything now is soaking wet from the 2nd annual moderators' conference and coehorn invitational shoot.

Here's the latest for Friday from RaiderANV.

Quote
There are six people from Graybeards board coming to the mortar shoot now. I've told them all I'll meet them at the main range tower right at about 1PM and we'll hang there BS'n until 1:30 then go to the 7th Virginia's firing position. If they're late they'll have to find the 7th's firing position on the bulletin board and find us there.

If you get there early  run up to sutlers row. Pat "RaiderANV" Kelly will  be in Lodgewood from about noon until 1PM. If you are there before noon then just wander around Sutler's row

Per Pat, the guys who make the mortars will be set up the far end of the Sutler's place down by the "crick on the road".

I believe they set up in a Tent, is that correct Pat?

Thats right DD, by the crik, last tent on the left.
Hope to meet you all at the tower. I have to play elsewhere so I will not be going down to the 7th Va.position.
Hope we don't get to much of that drippin VA. sunshine.

Safe trip.

Ok, so I'm a little slow on the up-take.
The crik on the road or the road by the crik all depend on how much of the drippin Va. sunshine we get.
