Monteray county has the most reported taken. Where are you from? I have great hog hunting around me, but it is all private land. I would also look into tehema (spelling?) county. If you are in ca, check out fish & game- they provide a lot of info on wild pig hunting.

Good luck- Tad :D

I've booked a hunt with Hogwild in Monterey county.  They seem to be good folk.  Call Mark at 1-831-385-6321.  I'm going the weekend of June 18/19, wanna join me?  BTW, whatta gonna shoot your pig with?  I'm take'n a Colt 6" Anaconda 44 Mag with a Holoscope.  It'll launch a 336 gr. cast LBT WLN bullet at about 1300 fps.  Boy, I've GOTTA get to the range and start putt'n some ammo thru that gun soon.

As far as public lands go in my part of the state(Northern part) Tehama Wildlife Area is hunted by some. In the central part of the state, Cow Mountain(Lake/Mendocino Counties) Management Areas hunted by a few(not hunted all that hard) and Laguna Mountain also have large populations of Wild Boar.  Cow Mountain area(60,000 plus acres) also has some great turkey hunting along with Blacktail deer and Black Bear(go to http://www.recreation.gov/detail.cfm?ID=1235 to see an overview of this area).  Camping is available close at hand along with water sports(boating, fishing and skiing) in the sounding lakes and streams.  If you are interested send me a PM and I’ll be glad to help with better directions/locations there to hunt.  In the southern part of the state I can't be of much help but if you go by your local BLM office they can show you where the local BLM lands are located and direct you to where Wild Boar are taken.  Lawdog

That's good info L-Dawg gave you but keep in mind that more pigs are shot in Monterey County than in all the rest of the state combined (maybe a MINOR exaggeration here!).  Truth is that its the hog hunter's Mecca as far as the west coast goes.  I'm start'n to chomp at the bit just a bit, hope'n I've not bit off more than I can chew!  Ah, that Anaconda will take down anything that moves in the lower 48.  WATCH OUT pigs! :-D
