Word over on the SASS wire is Norinco will be showing off their prototype 1887 Win clone at the SHOT show. Then the 20 prototypes will be distributed to Beta testers to determine if there are problems. If not a shipment of 200 will be on the way.
The Win 87 is a lever action shotgun. They are very pricey on the different e-auction houses, IF you can find one. Many CAS pards have been asking for someone to make them--looks like Norinco is stepping up to the plate.
Word of caution: the first batches of Norinco 1897's had some problems that were worked out in later manufactoring runs. Doesn't mean these will have problems, just food for thought.
Personally, I'll be looking at them long and hard--and probably will be getting one down the road.

That's what I was thinking, getting one down the road but only because of being financially challenged. They did step up though and work with Cap on replacing the first batch of the 97s. I thought that was admirable.

The real Win 87's are going for $900 and up on the auction houses. And then no guarentee that they don't need more $$ thrown at them to make them work. While my Win 97 is real not sure I want to have to go the same route with an 87.
Figure it will take a year or so for them to be on our shores and in adequate supply. I'm starting to save up my pennies.

Additional Info,
From the SASS wire seems there are several stories about these, each with some differences about how many in this country and what's going to happen to them as they are tested. Gun writers were mentioned as one possible group to her their hands on them first.

Might want to go over and read up. Coyote Cap's reply had the most details and it seems he is in the loop as far as testing them is concerned.

Did say price is in the $375 range and pards that's do-able!

However, seems that, last I heard, the Aussie offering had fallen through. Too many production problems that kept price too high and they just couldn't compete in the marketplace. Mayhap I heard wrong?

I for one wouldn't hesitate to try the Norinco version as soon as it becomes available. Given thier past history of warrenty replacement/repair of the first run of 97s I'd buy one and if problems developened they'll make it right. Kind of surpizing from a Chinee outfit, but then thier "point man" in the States, Coyote Cap, is both a great gunsmith and a shrewed businessman!

Hey no problem on the link, I see that the cost is 1195.00 MSR in the 2002 Price sheeet from Tristar
it also goes on to state that the arm is Sold Exclusively by Acu Sport Distribution Center 1-800-543-3150. While I have had experience with several of Norincos products I have never found them to have a very good handle on wood finishing. Perhaps they will get better at that, It appears that they do not possess sanding products or anything other than a nasty Reddish Epoxy or Varnish.
