Yet another new guy hooked...
« on: June 23, 2005, 08:23:50 AM »
Well, after just a week or so of poking around here, i'm hooked.  Looks like yet another hobby to spend my non-existant spare time on!  :)

A little background on me, I like anything that involves smoke, fire and noise.  I somehow managed to grow up without losing any appendages and I dont carry any shrapnel.  I'm currently pretty heavy into amateur rocketry, and do quite a bit of lathe work to support that habit.

I just upgraded to a larger lathe, 18" swing about 70" between centers.  I'm going to run out and pick up some 4130 and rough out my first cannon.  Just something small to make some noise this upcoming 4th of july.  Depending on how that goes I can see myself trying my hand at making some other cannons and mortars.

If anyone is looking for someone to do some cannon related machining work, i may be interested.

Anyways, thanks for listening, this looks like a great place!

gdeputy -

WELCOME!  You've come to the right place to support the addiction.

Keep it safe - look through the 'stickys' at the top and read through the safety procedures published by the N-SSA and the American Artillary Assn.  Some very sage advice.  But then you're already playing with fire, so you KNOW what can go wrong.

18 in  x 70 in lathe.  You can build some really nice toys with that!

Welcome glad to have you!

By all means, WELCOME.

I should think Hale and Congreve rockets would fit in well here, after all they are considered artillery.

I am envious of your lathe, you should be able to turn out some wonderful projects with it.
