Author Topic: Marlin MOD. 60 (Read 1251 times)

The is a honest question, and I am looking for real info on this matter.

It is about a silencer for my Marlin .22lr. I own a SIG. P226 9MM and a Walther P22. Both of thoughs have had the bll' changed out and can both take a silencer. Both of the silencers are legal, I payed the 200 extra dollars and wated about 180 days to get it appoved.

Any-how the Wather P22 is a .22LR, I wanted to take the silencer that I use on that and put it on my Marlin 60 .22lr. I know I would have to have the bll' threaded for it. I was just wondering if this is something that can be done on my Marlin? See, I do a ton of night small game hunting, daytime hunts too, and all though the .22lr is not load, I want it to be even quiter for more kills with less noise.

I know people come on here that are younger and talk about silencer, mostly talking out there a$$, but this is somthing I really want input on, so, any info will be helpfull.

Like I said I have the silencer, but can the bll' be threaded?

Seems most of Europe requires silencers..........I've never owned one, but think they make to much sense for our lawmakers to approve......I have never understood why they were banned in the first place......that said, I don't see why a machine shop couldn't make it work.........unless they are scared of the ATF!

I am not sure on this but I would guess if you showed a gunsmith the legal paperwork and permits for your silencer I would think he would be able to do the work for you. Jim

I would guess the threading of the barrel would cost more than the Model 60 is worth. I may reserve a procedure like this for a more expensive gun.

Gun smiths charge anywhere from 10 to 20 bucks a hole to tap I would guess that the opposite job threading would not cost anymore. If so I would not think that much. Depends I suppose if those silencers use a odd ball thread or not?

I have thought the same thing. I just love my mod 60. On the same page though, you will still be able to hear the semi-auto when you fire. Maybe a bolt action would be better.

The silencer is not a odd ball size, but it is revers thread. You have to have it revers thread so when your bullet comes out clockwise from your rifleing it will not try and spin off your silencer. It is fine thread also.

I would bet it is a lot more. The barrel will have to be chucked in a lathe, and unless you find a smith with just the right chaser the threads will have to be lathe cut. If you can even find a smith to do it.

Mine was junk. It was a jam-o-matic that no one seemed to be able to fix. I am happy you like yours. And you are rignt: you will hear the action working and the brass hitting the ground.
