New 1894c 357

Picked up my new Marlin in 357 last night. It was raining so I just sat in my chair and looked at it. It is pretty. Any suggestions on what ammo it might like?

ive had pretty good luck with the american eagle 158jsp and ive tried the 180 castcore from federal

My older one likes just about everything. :D  Hollowpoints can blow up pretty bad if they are light and hit up close.  Soft points work better on deer, 158's or 180's.  DP.

I got my 1984C circa 1982 (?) and it had to have been the worst rifle I ever had to get to shoot ANYTHING!!!  A few years ago I tried some cast bullets, 358429, and that was the ticket.  The little lever gun is 'scoped and will shoot 1-1.25" at 100 yards from a good rest.  The trigger pull is atrocious.  Still, I like it since I got it to shoot the cast bullets well.  They weigh-in at around 173 grains and the best powders are H-110 and SR-4759.  Hope yours is easier to get to shoot well.  Good-luck...BCB

I've got the same gun and I love +P .38 Specials out of it.  Also for plinking try some .38 cowboy loads over 125 gr. LRNFP bullets...the fun never stops!!  Just watch your bullet profile...nothing "pointy" in that tubular magazine.

I like the Sierra 140g JSP.  Thinking of trying some casts. I dont like them to heavy.

Another thing about bullet profiles, semi wadcutters will sometimes hang a bit. They will usually go if you jiggle the lever, but if you want fast action shooting ie. cowboy, then stay with bullets with smooth contours.
