New 223 Range Report
« on: May 31, 2005, 02:28:11 AM »
About a month back, I was in Colorado Springs and I found a used 223 Ultra with a Bushnell Sportsman 4 - 12 x 40 scope.  There was only one small scratch on the receiver and the gun store was only asking $180.00.  Needless to say, I bought the Ultra on the spot.  I was able to take it out on Saturday, but I didn't have much time so I was shooting with my bipod off the hood of my Blazer instead of sand bags or a bench rest.  At 100 yards, I was shooting 1.5 inch patterns.  At 200 yards, my best pattern was 2.5 inches.  I couldn't be happier with the gun.

I will be ordering a Mueller 8.5 - 25 x 50 scope for the 223 Ultra.  I am looking forward to shooting it with a better rest and the higher powered scope to see what it can really do.

Sounds like you got that weapon at a very good price.  Nice job.  What kind of ammo are you shooting out of it?
It's all a hot mess...........

Swift One - I am shooting Winchester White Box 45 Gr. JHP Varmint ammo from Wal-Mart for $14.00 per 40 rounds.  I'm glad it likes the cheap ammo

White box ammo

Ole' white box ammo comes through agian.  That is what I broke my gun in with and used the brass for my reloads.  I pulled off a couple of 11/16" groups with the Winchester ammo and was averaging 1.25" at 100yds with it.  Good stuff and cheap priced no doubt.

With the scope that you are going to put on your weapon, you will have a fine varmint rifle for sure!!
