When developing new loads,how much do you guys very powder weights? I'm trying to work up a load for my Ruger Redhawk 7 1/2" 44 mag.I've got 300gr sp & 240gr hp bullets and h-110 & 2400 powders.Been loading in 1/2 gr increments,sound ok? SGB

I go up in .5 gr. increments.

For handgun loads I vary my charges by .3gr.  Get to shoot more that way while  finding the perfect load :wink:

When I was working-up a load for my Ruger SBH in .44 Magnum with 240's, I loaded H-110 from 19.3 to 25.8:

Powder: 25.8 grains of Hodgdon H-110          
Primer: CCI-350          
Case: Remington          
Firearm: Ruger Super Blackhawk 7-1/2" barrel
Optics: Ruger open sights
Velocity: 1607 FPS @ 15' from muzzle
Accuracy: 6-shots, 110 yards, <5"

Firearm: Original Ruger .44 Carbine          
Velocity: 1919 FPs @ 15' from muzzle
Optics: Leupold 1x4
Accuracy: 5-shots, 100 yards, <2"

These are "warm" loads and I DO NOT suggest that uyou jump right in on them!

I also work in .2 or .3 gr increments for pistol work-ups.  .2gr for faster powders and .3gr for slower powders.

Once I find a load I like, I load that plus & minus 1 tenth to see if there is any improvement.   Then it's done.     Now if it was a rifle load - THEN I would play with OAL some at that  point to see if I could improve it anymore.
