Does anybody buy "new" barrels?

With the cost of the barrel, fitting fee, shipping... is it worth it to get new barrels? Seems smarter to buy used ones or a whole new or used rifle.

Depends, for rimfire or shotgun, a whole new gun is more practical for the difference, but for the centerfires, new barrels are still way less than a complete rifle.  Specially when you figure on a free trigger job for those that won't/can't do their own!

With the spring price increase on new guns and the barrel sale for those who have the flyer in their hands, new barrels are attractive again. Knock $5 off the barrel, drop the fitting fee, charge $10 per gun to ship it back, and the barrel pricing is at 2002 levels.
I've got to get a frame packed up and shipped, was supposed to pack it up last weekend. Still haven't entirely decided on the barrels, but will probably get at least five.

I had decided the same thing until they found a stash of the ultra-comp barrels that you can't buy in a complete gun right now. So $220 for 2 barrels. I hope they do what I expect them to do.
